Tip Tuesday

It’s Tuesday again which means only one thing...MORE FITNESS TIPS!
This weeks tip Tuesday is revolved around eating clean on a budget. If you are a college student like myself you may find yourself in a jam financially more often than not. Eating clean doesn’t always mean you have to go to whole foods and spend your whole paycheck on the organic section. Education is key when you are in the grocery store. Prior to going to the grocery store always have a meal so you are not tempted to grab anything that passes your eyes like JUNK FOOD. When you walk into a grocery store your best bet is to not venture down the aisles of the store, but more so stay on the walls of the store. If you look at the layout of a shopping market you’ll find that most shopping centers will put their fruits, veggies, and meats on the walls of the store. In the aisles is where you will find sugary cereals, brownies, cakes, etc... Now that we have our location let’s read some labels. When reading labels you ALWAYS want to read the ingredients! The first item on the ingredient list is what makes up most of the contents in that specific food. For instance if a fruit juice says “high fructose corn syrup” PUT IT BACK ON THE SHELF. You want to look for foods that have less than eight ingredients. The less ingredients on the label the better! After you’ve properly looked at the ingredients now look at pricing. Don’t be fulled by silly advertisements on the front of the packaging because all-in-all they are advertisements and they are there to catch your eye and sell you! Next time you go shopping keep these considerations in mind. Some foods I would recommend on checking out are products like oatmeal, brown rice, plain chex cereal, greek yogurt, lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, onions, garlic, whole eggs, liquid egg whites, unsweetened almond milk, almonds, olive oil, chicken, sirloin steak, turkey burgers, ground turkey, etc...
